For The Sidekick newspaper
A Coppell High School record 12 students have been selected as finalists for the 2012 Dallas Morning News High School Journalism Day and Awards. As finalists, they are invited to attend the event at SMU on Wednesday, April 18. In addition to lunch and an awards ceremony, students are able to attend breakout sessions with professional journalists. It is one of the best experiences of the year for Sidekick staff members.
We are excited to have KCBY staff members join us as finalists this year in the Best Video category. However, the Dallas Morning News only released names of finalists and not which category each student is a finalist.
Congratulations to the following students: Kara Adkins, Josh Brunelli (KCBY), Julianne Cauley, Thomas Hair, Brian Hwu, Lance McCaskey, Sammy Robben, Kelly Stewart, Trevor Stiff, Hayley Struck (KCBY), Jordan Thompson, and Mary Whitfill.
The newspaper staff is also listed as a finalist, which I believe indicates The Sidekick is a finalist for Best Newspaper (but I am not sure of this – just basing it on how the finalists are listed).
All finalists must let me know by Tuesday morning, April 10 if they are planning to attend to meet the Dallas Morning News’ RSVP deadline. If you cannot attend, please let me know as we will be charged $25 for each person who commits by Tuesday to participate but does not attend.
Again, congratulations to these deserving student journalists!
